First Post for Irish Monarchism

Hellow and good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. I have started this blog as I have, over the years, moved from my position as an Irish Republican to the relatively unheard of political and in some peoples' opinion, pyscologically questionable position as an Irish Monarchist.

And before you ask, I am not a supportor of the British Monarchism in Ireland, I actually have my reasoning worked out, but to put it quite simply, I do not support British Rule in Ireland as in short this entails supporting the poor and downright malign treatment of the Irish by the British Government which acted in the Crown's name over the centuries, and while I am not an Irish Republican, I am still an Irish Nationalist, (and to everyone concerned, yes there is a difference if you bothered looking), and it would offend me on a fundamental level if I did. I do not hate the Crown, and I do not hate the Monarchs of Britain, I hate their governments which acted in their name.

Oh and I am quite aware that there is a surprising amount of support for Irish Monarchism from the Irish Diaspora around the world, but I am, as far as I am aware however, the only Irish Monarchist who was born, raised and still lives in Ireland.

This blog will of course be detailing developments and events in the media and the world over regarding Monarchism, but I will also be posting tid bits of my thinking regarding monarchism and its place in the world as a viable alternative to Representitive Democracy and Republicanism at large, as well as my opinions on socio-political matters, and ultimately, use this blog to help promote the idea of a native Moarchy in Ireland to my fellow Irish and all interested parties.

  1. Kudos to you on the new blog. I'm always glad to see someone from the Emerald Isle who has not allowed the experiences with Britain to taint their entire view of monarchy -which has for centuries been the Irish tradition. As you've linked to one of my webpages I will not go further telling you things you likely already know just be aware that all my sites on geocities will be going the way of the Dodo when that service is closed at the end of October. 3. Welcome to the blogger world.

I am sure you will discover that you are not the only Irish Monarchist who "was born, raised and still lives in Ireland",

Monarchists are everywhere, even in the most hostile republican territories. That's an advantage of the internet. It brings to light the most unexpected results.

  4. Hello.

Whom do you support to be the monarch of Ireland? Francis II?

  5. @Anon

In truth I have no candidate to support as of yet. Rest assured however I will do my research for viable candidates and will announce my support in due course.

  6. Jacobites could claim that Duke Franz of Bavaria (the Jacobite King Francis II) is de jure King of Ireland.

In 1916 Kaiser Wilhelm II's on, Prince Joachim, was candidate for an independent Irish Monarchy.

  7. Hello and welcome! or should I say Fáilte?

This is thorny ground you're delving into here. I reside in Massachusetts and am surrounded with Irish-American Catholics, whose views on monarchy have been chequered by the various British governments--or so I'm told often very loudly at the pub when I advance my views. Being in this milieu, and also being of Québécois descent, I sympathize strongly with your situation.

  8. I'm a proud Irish Republican but I have a deep admiration for the Spanish Monarchy & in particular H.M.King Juan Carlos I of Spain .The Monarchies of both Spain & France were always allies of the Irish in times past & provided shelter for many of our noble exiles .

  9. Their Majesties,The Catholic Monarchs,King Juan Carlos I & Queen Sofia paid a State Visit to Ireland in the late 70's .I think another visit is long over due !!

  10. Actually, there's probably a case to be made for the Spanish & an Irish monarchy. When the Pope reconfirmed the rights of Queen Mary and King Philip over England and Ireland he said that if Mary should die without heirs Ireland should pass to King Philip and his descendants. It didn't happen of course and even when Philip was supporting the Irish rebels against Elizabeth I he never tried to press a claim to be King of Ireland (that I know of).

  11. Didn't the Irish Prince's offer the Irish throne to his daughter, the Infanta Isabella,Regent of of the Low Countries .One must also remember after the Fligt of the Earls, most of the exiled Irish Prince's recieved pensions from the Catholic Kings of both Spain & France .

  18. rupublism means that all are born equal i feel this does not exist in a mornachy and you should be ashamed of yourself and you aint no nationlist as irish nationalist and republicans share the same view on a mornachy foreigh or domestic

    ReplyDelete
  19. What does 'mornachy foreigh ' mean ?

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Wilam

No, you should be ashamed of yourself, in a republic the concept of all men being born equal at best only applies to how equal we are when faced with a bit of paper that tells us we are, I am referring to a constitution, and even then in any republic you care to mention, there is no such thing as equality, there never was and never will be, there will always be classes, the rich and the poor, the privliged, the disposessed. Thus making the concept of all are equal in a republic a downright lie, and absolute lie. Or do you mean to tell me the bankers in the Irish Republic are treated as equal to the begger in the street corner, hm?

Ina Monarchy this lie does not exist because the monarchy acknowledges the inherent inequalities in society that are always there, so in this respect a monarchy does not Lie to its Subjects, Oh but wait! In a monarchy there is a concept of equality!, but not equal in Law, or a bit of paper that the Lisbon treaty as shown us that our democratically elected leaders don't give two flying pig shits about, equal before the Divine, before God Himself, a higher power is inherently respected in a Monarchy and a balance is struck between Church and State as the motherly and fatherly aspects of society, a truer, more honest understanding of the seperation of Church and State as seperate but not enemies as secularists and republican idealists would have us believe, no.

And with regards to foreign ideas, the concept of monarchy is foreign to the Irish? What country are you living in man! Have you studied our history? The concept of Monarchy is as inherent to Irishness as it is to everyone else, and this is why I can still honestly call myself a Nationalist while embracing Monarchical Ideals for my country, we have always been a monarchical people with a unique understanding of Monarchy, Ireland was once literally Crawling with princes, chieftans, Ris, Leasris and High Kings! Who are you to say this is foreign when it couldn't be more natural? It is republicanism that is the offspring of foreign devil minds! Was it not the devil himself, Oliver Cromwell, the first republican to ever set foot on Ireland and lay waste to us and drove our nobles to death or exile? No! It is you that should be ashamed for supporting Republicanism! The Republic will be the death of Ireland, culturally, politically, and Spiritually. To hell with republics, the Irish People cannot truly be sovereign WITHOUT a Sovereign of its own, and it is to this effect I have made this blog, to help garner support and interest for the Restoration and organisation of the Great High Kingdom of Eire!

I am not ashamed to espouse what I believe in to this regard and will never apologise for it, this is the true need of Ireland, we need our link to our ancestry and past that is so ruined, bloodied and almost forgotten, we need our own help, we need reassurance, we need our pride back. We need our Kings.

Thus speaks a true patriot. Go mbeannaí Dia thú, a chara liom. You do not stand alone.

In answer to our barely literate citizen friend I would also add that, given the very existence of this blog, his assertion that nationalists and republicans share the same view on monarchy is, quite simply, wrong.

  22. On the practical side,I would say what I have said to many German monarchists -That support for a restored monarchy has to be built slowly and, like a house, from the ground up.Firstly, I think that every effort should be made to make sure everyone knows who their Local king is and has a generally positive image of him (or her). How many residents of Connacht know who the present O'Connor Don is? Get representatives or heirs to the vacant thrones show up at charity events, festivals and revive old local festivals be a presence at folkish events-it is there we will find our supporters.Make the romance of the "old days" part of folk life.Make monarchy FUN.As I said to a German Monarchist, the best thing they could do is give out free cake and cookies on the Crown Princes Birthday. We should be in the business of selling plates with the [picture of the heirs to the four kingdoms on them with little ketchy histories on them.Who could find that offensive ? If we "Do" rather than "talk among ourselves" we might get somewhere.Get the Mad Monarchist to post the native heirs on his website -around St.Patrick's Day.We would get a lot of hits-Be bold.Good luck.

  23. I think the Malaysian style of monarchy (a revolving monarchy) will provide a good monarchical system for Ireland, Germany, and Italy.

  24. I flipped all the way to your first post to comment. You have done a very good job by my likes. "...equal before the Divine, before God Himself, a higher power is inherently respected in a Monarchy and a balance is struck between Church and State as the motherly and fatherly aspects of society, a truer, more honest understanding of the seperation of Church and State as seperate but not enemies as secularists and republican idealists would have us believe, no." Well stated. I heartily agree though I am not Catholic. (I do believe in the catholicity of Christ's Church) May you be strengthened in this good work and all glory be to God.

  25. somewhat of a non sequitar question, but, do you support the status quo on the issue of the irish languge, i personaly see no reason that an irish monarchy should be any diferent from the republic in terms of the officital languge

    ReplyDelete

    1. It is impractical to try to wipe out the use of the English language in Ireland as it will always be useful to us as a trade languge, but I would be in favour of a stronger emphasis on the spread of the Irish lamguage in both official and day to day contexts before we make the folly of letting the language slip into obscurity.

    2. i too am in favor of the irish languge but to make it the majority first languge of the country we might have to replicate some of the things the british did in reverse (at some points this included burning people alive for being able to write in the irish languge!)i do want to promote it, but i do not want to go down that route (although i have no problem with deporting anyone who argues it should not be compulsary in schools)

  26. for the record i consider the position of high king of ireland to have been VALIDLY abolished only with the formal declaration of the republic (thought it had been in a valad state of vaccency since the abdication of rorry o' conner), a foreign power cannot validly abolish a native monarchy, even if they can defacto abolish it, however if the native population later specifically opts for a republic, then the monarchy is implicitly abolished at last

  27. irish monarchists have one argument that monarchists in most other countries do not, the argument of historical justice, the point that the old high kings were never rejected by the irish people, georgia is the only place where monarchists are using this argument currently and they are probably closer to restoration then any other abolished monarchy, the reason to use this argument is that it resonates deeply with people, i myself would be absolutly opposed to an irish monarchy if i had not heard that argument, once i have heard that it actauly ocasionaly cry about the loss of the native irish monarchy, even many republicans i know would love to be campighning to abolish a native monarchy if it meant no foreign rule would have happened (if i received one wish that would be granted, it would be that the foreign conquest of ireland had not happened) there is very little i would not give for an ireland never under british rule, use the argument that we can help make whole what the british destroyed, it is a powefull one that monarchists in most countries do not have, it may be your greatest asset servent of the chief,

  28. just in case you were wondering if there were other people who supported you (not nescesarily a majority of the irish public, but that is where persausion comes in)(indivitaul irish kings are sometimes popular even amoung republicans today) (examples: brian boru (who you seem to like), hugh o'neil (who must be regarded as a de facto high king, as he held all the poweres of the postition and no one else claimed the title at that time), conn of the hundrad battles (the only irishman to have a whole province named after him), neil of the nine hostages (one estimate says that at least one third of the irish population is descended from him), grace o'maile (this one was technically a queen)(my anscestor by the way),and even rory o'connar (viewed as a tragic figure for his abdication with british swords around him))(this is made possible by the elimination of a native monarchy by a foriegn power) (it also proves that they are nationists before they are republicans)read the article provided bellow it may not advocate exactly what you want in terms of the power of the high king but getting closer to what you want then the status quo is still good

maybee we should offer the presidency to a gaelic nobleman and then let him pull a louis napoleon bonnaparte, anyway

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am also a monarchist living in the south the argument that gets to me is the cost of monarchy the Irish Presidency costs 6 million per year not to mention the cost of former presidents pensions and the cost of presidential elections is always ignored. I support lord Inchaquin for king he is a direct descendant of Brian Boru and still holds his family lands. Its time we organise our selves and start to present a viable alternative to the Irish people. I really believe that they have lost all interest in the presidency and the current beyond boring retired former politican is exactly what we need to help raise support for a monarchy. We could have a grand and dignified monarchy with 6 million per year and the money saved on presidential elections could go towards bringing back the blue hussars and buying the family a few jewels, aras an uchterain would be perfect residence for King and farmleigh a perfect residence for his eldest daughter our new crown princess [very modern] all state functions in Dublin castle. we really need to organise God save the King of the Irish

    1. so there is at least one person who agrees with my remark about the aras (although I have yet to find anyone who explicitly disagrees) (you can find the comment here: http://irishmonarchism.blogspot.com/2011/10/state-of-republic-race-for-aras.html)
it just needs a change of name from aras an uchterain to aras an ard ri.
